Tonga Drum – Beautiful Artwork – Incredible piece
This drum was purchased by Maurice Fresco in 1985 from Norma Chikawore, a well known Zimbabwean merchant. Norma would travel around Zimbabwe and Zambia, collecting the finest drums from villages and bring them to South Africa.

This drum has incredibly beautiful design, is a very heavy strong drum made from hard Zimbabwe wood, either mahogany or Teak. It has the inscription Incelwe on the drum accompanied with drawings of a traditional Batonga water pipe.
The word Incelwa is a woman’s water pipe. It is made from a calabash and is used by the Tonga people for smoking tobacco. In the past these pipes were used for smoking Marijuana — Taken from Zambezi.com
